Moving Hardware To The Clipboard

Since a hardware object is something you want to track (using the log system), there's an option to move hardware objects between "parent" objects without deleting and re-adding them. This allows to keep track of this specific hardware component whereever it is assigned. The Hardware Clipboard does just that. To assign an object to the clipboar choose it by clicking it once on the list, then click on the "Assign Hardware to Clipboard" icon. You can access the Hardware Clipboard by clicking this icon - a new dialog window will appear which will allow you to access the clipboard.
The Three Basic Operations The whole point of computer hardware is to make possible three basic operations: Input, Processing and Storage, and Output. Remember a computer cannot work without instructions from a program and information such as numbers to calculate. The instruction and information that the computer needs are put into the computer by way of input hardware. Once the instructions and information are in the computer, it must have processing and storage hardware to perform its work.

After the computer has finished its work, it must have output hardware. This allows it to display its work in some way that humans can understand and use. These hardware devices that attach to a computer are called peripherals. All computer systems must include hardware to do these three operations. But different computers use different kinds of hardware to input, process and store, and output information. lets us look at the hardware that has been designed to serve those purposes.

Input Hardware Without instructions and information to tell it what to do, the computer cannot do anything. Human programmers must write instructions for the computer. They need to have a way to send their instructions into the computer so that it knows what to do. This is the purpose of input hardware. The term input simply means to put data into the computer. You will read and hear this term often in connections with computers. Sometimes input is referred to as data entry.

A device that is often used for entering instructions and information into the computer is the terminal. A terminal is a typewriter-like device and comes in many different designs. The operator types information on the keyboard. Often the keyboard is part of the terminal, or it may be connected by a wire or even "connected" without a wire by using wireless communication. The keyboard looks like a typewriter keyboard, but it may also have some special symbols for giving the computer instructions. Some keyboards also include number keys arranged like a calculator so that the operator can enter numbers quickly and easily.

A device called a mouse has been developed for use with the computers. The mouse looks like a little box about the size of a real mouse. It is used instead of a keyboard for inputting data and instructions into the computer. The user rolls the mouse on a desk top. This moves a pointer of light, called a cursor, on the computer's screen. The cursor can be pointed at various pictures on the screen, each of which represents a different job for the computer to do that job. When the cursor is pointing at the desired job, the user pushes a button on the mouse and the computer immediately begins to do that job. This means that the computer operator does not need to know a lot of special commands - or even how to type - in order to have the computer do its job.
